Presenting a Full Collection Consistently

A range holds together when the shell stays constant and only the inside changes. Presentation across a collection is planned at the dieline stage for the whole set.

A range holds together when the outside follows one rule and only the inside changes. Presenting a full collection consistently means fixing the shell, the print finish and the insert logic before individual pieces are designed, so variation never reaches the shelf. That rule is agreed once, at dieline stage, and every later addition to the range is measured against it.

Custom packaging for corporate gifting programmes

A collection of boxes in graded sizes with matching print finish and fitted insert trays.

Fix the shell first

Decide the construction once: board type, closure style, lid proportions and how the edges finish. Graded sizes can share all of that. A range built from unrelated constructions looks assembled rather than designed, even when every piece is well made on its own, so we set one base specification and treat each size as an application of it. Where a size is added later, it starts from that profile rather than from a fresh design.

Proportions matter as much as materials. A lid overhang that reads correctly on the largest box can look clumsy on the smallest, so we scale the detail rather than copying measurements from panel to panel. The same applies to the closure, where a magnet or a ribbon that suits a large box can feel wrong on a small one.

Keep print and finish shared

Colour, print process and finishing carry most of the family resemblance, so they should not vary between pieces in the same range. Changing any one of them between pieces is enough to make the range look assembled from separate orders rather than issued as one collection.

  • One Pantone reference for the brand colour across every size
  • The same lamination type, gloss, matte or soft-touch, throughout
  • Logo placement measured from a common edge rather than centred by eye
  • One foil or emboss treatment, not a different one per piece
  • Typography held to a single scale that steps with the panel size

We hold these decisions in one stored profile, so a piece added to the range a year later is manufactured against the same references as the first box. Nobody has to remember which foil or which lamination the range uses, because the profile answers it.

Let the insert carry the difference

This is where each product needs its own answer. A bottle, a jar and a small accessory cannot share one insert tray, but they can share depth, material and colour. Working in flocked or velvet-finished trays in a single tone keeps the interior consistent while each cavity is cut to suit its product. Deepest trays are set by the tallest item, then stepped down through the sizes so the range feels even.

Where items are sold separately, we design the insert so the presentation looks complete whether one piece or all of them are bought. The outer shell stays identical, which is what keeps the collection reading as one family on a counter. We also hold the printed orientation, so every lid opens the same way and the branding sits where the eye expects it.

Check the range together

Individual approvals miss this problem, so we ask for a full collection review: every size out of its carton, standing side by side under the same light. That is when a slightly different shade, a logo sitting a few millimetres higher or a lid with a different overhang becomes obvious. We correct those at the sample stage, record the decisions in the specification, and only then start bulk production. Consistency is far cheaper to fix on three samples than on three thousand boxes.
